Katrin Gaska is a lettering artist who specialises in reverse glass gilding, traditional signwriting and calligraphy. Her intricate glass pieces, rooted in the age-old technique of verre églomisé, involve applying real gold leaf to the back of glass, using a variety of methods including water gilding, oil gilding, acid etching, glue chipping and embellishing with enamel paints, glitter, and abalone shell. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted using heritage craft skills with a bold, contemporary edge.
Katrin’s work draws on the rich visual language of Victoriana signage, circus & funfair lettering and folk art. She combines these references and adds a playful contemporary twist.
Inspiration comes from all around her—street art, architecture, photography, travelling, visiting exhibitions & art galleries, watching films, listening to music or catching up with friends.
Katrin welcomes commissions, whether it’s beautiful, bespoke signage for your home or business or a commemorative piece to celebrate a special occasion.
