Event Description
Discover the tactile pleasure of wire sculpting in this relaxed, hands-on masterclass with artist Melissa Swan. Using simple tools and lightweight metal wire, you’ll learn how to bend, twist and shape wire into elegant three-dimensional forms that capture movement and character.
Melissa will begin with a short demonstration, introducing the basic techniques of wire sculpting and guiding you through how to work safely and confidently with the material. You’ll then create your own small freestanding sculpture, choosing from a selection of charming subjects such as a penguin, dog, fish, flamingo, hare or tiny cat. Some designs are quicker than others, so many participants may have time to make two or even three pieces during the session.
As you work, Melissa will share tips on selecting the right wire, building strong yet delicate forms, and creating simple stands so your sculptures can be displayed beautifully at home. The class is suitable for complete beginners as well as those with creative experience who would like to try something new.
All materials are provided – just bring your curiosity and creativity.
Please note: working with wire involves bending and shaping metal, and there is a small risk of minor scratches. Participants work at their own discretion. If you prefer, you are welcome to bring a pair of lightweight gardening gloves to wear while working.
