‘Magnolias’ is a composition in delicacy yet boldness with the use of the glazing technique within the watercolour medium. Their beauty as an early spring tree is unequivocal. Their prominent form, showing the flowers from bud through to full bloom, is juxtaposed against a foreground of lost and found bracken – produced using cling film, while the backdrop is softer, with a more abstract feel using less detail and spattered portray distance. Colour wise, the variety of greens in the environment contrast perfectly with the pinks of the flowers. The mount and frame together create a tranquil feeling to this contrasting watercolour.
