‘Autumnal Splendours 2’ is a delicately painted watercolour that was inspired by
a wonderful collection of Nigella seed pods ‘Love in the Mist’. Afterall they and
their contents become the rebirth of plant life! I challenged myself throughout
the painting to create a happy and warm image of Autumn. The looseness of the
painting, with its fading washes and splatters as a background emphasise the
desired mood with lost and found areas around the stems and a splash of yellow
to suggest Autumn sunshine. Colour wise, with plenty of white for airiness, the
vibrant palette is limited which emphasises their form perfectly.
The mount and frame together create an airy feeling to this delicate
watercolour.
