What to Expect from the Classes
Across the block, you’ll work with a range of professional tutors, each bringing different skills, styles and media. They’ll share their expertise and give you the chance to try a variety of approaches while keeping the sessions small, relaxed and friendly. The aim is to offer a diverse mix of teaching while maintaining the intimacy and calm of a regular group – a mindful space to spend time with like‑minded people, learn new skills, or hone old ones as you continue your creative journey.
All professional art materials are provided.
Examples of Previous Classes
Here’s a flavour of what we’ve explored so far:
-
Acrylic Painting – Building a painting from a burnt umber underlayer, then developing colour and brushwork to create a loose, painterly, impressionistic final piece.
-
Watercolour & Pen – Creating lively landscape scenes in pen, inspired by the style of Ian Fennelly, then adding expressive watercolour washes to build a distinctive, colourful image.
-
Acrylic Still Life – Construct vibrant, layered still lifes with complex checked or striped backgrounds in colours that boldly oppose your fruit or veg subjects. Use pure colour mixes to sculpt form, light and shadow – little or no black or white – for dynamic results that really pop.
-
Acrylic Still Life – Learn to paint glass bottles in acrylic, mastering transparency and texture through clever paint techniques. Explore layering, colour shifts and edges to capture the elusive glow, reflections and subtle distortions of glass using only paint – no tricks, just skill.
-
Life Drawing – Working from audio‑visual references, focusing on fundamentals such as balance, straight‑line contour mapping and curved‑line contour mapping to capture the human form.
